After the path dried

The exposed part of the path dried first. Under the trees, water remained in the wheel ruts and the boards at the narrow turn were still slick.

Two routes that looked alike from the gate had aged differently through the day. The open path was dusty again by five. The shaded path kept the smell of wet soil until evening.
