E-mail and notifications

tinymash stores in-app system notifications independently from e-mail delivery. SMTP is required only when a message must leave the installation.

Site addresses

System > Site settings provides:

  • Site admin e-mail address
  • System notifications e-mail address

The notification address is the operational recipient for selected system events. SMTP From and Reply-To values are configured separately.

SMTP

System > SMTP controls:

  • SMTP delivery enablement
  • host and port
  • TLS, SSL, or no transport encryption
  • username and password
  • From address and display name
  • Reply-To address

Leaving the password blank keeps the stored password. Use Send test e-mail after changing the connection or sender identity. A successful saved configuration does not prove that the remote server accepts or delivers messages.

Prefer an encrypted authenticated connection. Use unencrypted SMTP only on a trusted local transport.

Notification events

The system can send selected events by e-mail, including:

  • content requires moderation
  • user changed e-mail address
  • user was locked out
  • component updates are available

The event remains in the in-app history even when e-mail delivery is disabled or fails.

Retention and dismissal

Notification retention accepts 7 through 60 days. Dismissal moves a notice out of the active list; it does not delete the history immediately or restart its retention clock. Housekeeping removes records when their creation time is older than the configured retention.

Password-reset mail

Password resets require SMTP and the matching role permission under System > Security. Throttling limits requests by visitor address and username or e-mail identifier. Public responses do not reveal whether an account exists.

Test password-reset delivery after SMTP changes, but do not use a production user’s password as a mail test.
